Electric vehicle charging points

As many residents in bath and neighbouring villages don't have off street parking, I think it's really important to prioritise  on street electric vehicle charging points in residential areas. In your story I think many people are still going to need cars or will keep works vehicles near their house overnight. In batheaston there is not a single public charging point and this meant I was unable to get an electric car when we exchanged our old car last year. I am sure there are many people in similar situations. In particular people in outlying villages are less likely to be able to go car-free and these areas should be prioritised.

I agree with Brianna. By 2030 all new cars in the UK will be electric, and we must support people in the transition to electric cars as soon as possible. Without on-street charging we will be discriminating against people who have no off-street parking space. Of course I would like to see car use reduced in favour of walking, cycling and public transport, but people will still want their own car for occasional use. The transition to electric vehicles will dramatically reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and improve the air we breathe locally.

B&NES needs to help rural communities to transition to electric vehicles by facilitating the creation of a rural charging hub within villages

Is there an economic case for them? Do people always use them for free, or do they provide a return and are they therefore investable?

In London, lamp-posts have been converted to electrical charging points. Or alternatively, do people living in city centres really need a car at all?

I like the idea of car clubs/schemes so you don’t have to charge them at home and you don’t have to own one to use them.
