Rates/rent breaks for community stores

Put together a package of incentives for a community shop in any area not served by one.

Why the contribution is important

You cant have a 15-minute neighborhood without local shops. Community shops are more creative, more responsive to local needs and more energising than corporate minimarts.

How about grants to upgrade premises for energy efficiency? Similarly, offer help to buy or rent equipment to one or several shops together, to help them lower their carbon footprint.

Supporting or incentivising the sort of community shops we want and in the locations they are needed is a good idea. However more needs to be done to clarify what is meant by a community shop and the types of service or products we want provided in our communities before I can fully buy in to this idea

P.S. I would love to see Repair Cafés supported or incentivised in this way, as not only are they ‘creative’ and ‘responsive to local needs’ but they also contribute to making our local economy more circular and regenerative
