Create spaces for the community to grow food. This could focus on social aspect of growing food encouraging schools, sitizens of all ages to participate. There could opportunities for how-to workshops and local celebrations/competitions. 

 

Why the contribution is important

This could help to reduce the carbon footprint by more food being localy produced. Improve mental wellbeing accross all ages for this can be an opportunity for socializing, skills sharing and phisical activity in the fresh air. This can help people be more connected with their enviroment and more invested in local businesses. Also there could be opportunities for busnesses to set-up workshops, cafes and organise local events.

    Community orchards could be part of this, in rural areas as well as in the city. Then communities can join in with annual rituals and in the processing of shared crops (such as apple juice pressing)

    I would add that we should be supporting organic and no dig growing methods in order to protect and enhance soil quality.

    Local resident growing alongside local market gardens will increase food security which will become increasingly important as the effects of the climate crisis are felt.

    Also potential to bring generations together using the experience and skills of older people in helping to teach younger people and vise versa ... growing garden around care homes / sheltered housing - getting all engaged in process ...
