Outdoor Sports Provision

When consdering changes to our sports provision, I beleive we should consider the value per capita of the space we provide.  All too often you see areas designated for specific sports which are under utilised.  Consideration should be given to the number of people who can enjoy excercise and make it more accessible and apropriate to look after the whole community.

Why the contribution is important

During the pandemic we have seen the need for people to use open spaces for their recreation,  I beleive more variety is needed to encourage the public to continue outdoor excercise for their own health and wellbeing both physical and mental.   By offering a diverse range of activities which are accessible to all we also encourage people to become engaged with their community  -  Public health is paramount and we should consider our social, society and civic responsbilities, how can we create sport / excercise for all.

It's good the council is now doing something about the surplus golf courses and is replacing them with facilities for other sports which are currently underserved in BANES.

I think within this we should consider ideas such as outdoor gym stations , chess locations, tennis and table tennis.

You have to question why the Rec was so under-used in 2020. This was an area bought by the Council about sixty years ago, specifically for outdoor sports for all. It could be made much more available to all sorts of outdoor pursuits - instead, it was given to a charity that now runs it without appearing to have any form of outreach programme at all. It seems much more intent on building on it.

great idea. Ideas above can help to get people who don't do the standard sports more interested in outdoor activities, meeting friends outdoors for a purpose. Sheltered outdoor activities for poor weather would be good , too - all ideas gratefully received! (table tennis could be one, for instance, under a roof but still outdoors.
